Nanuet, N.Y. (June 1st, 2020) – Jazmin-Iris De La Cruz began her fitness journey without halt in 2014. It all started with an addiction to running, in order to fill in the quiet time in her life. However, she was no stranger to loving fitness. “I grew up very boyish, as a defense mechanism for not feeling very “pretty”. In school, gym class was my favorite. I grew up with not much to do but dream. Being a “Gym Teacher” was just one those dreams after having such great physical education instructors in the North Rockland Central school district. ” said Jazmin-Iris De La Cruz.
Jazmin-Iris De La Cruz talks about her weight loss journey.
1) Why did you choose Peak Physique Personal Training, Bootcamp and Boxing?
My sister was a client at Peak Physique and told me “hey they are hiring, give it a shot.” I was doing personal training independently, but knew I needed to grow outside my box, and work alongside people that understood my passion. After taking my first session as part of the training process at Peak, I knew I had found like-minded individuals that were going to teach me so much. I was right.
2) How many pounds did you lose so far? How long did it take?
I had lost over 30 lbs in 3 months when I had first begun my fitness journey, and that was my ideal HAPPY weight. Two kids later, and I was able to return back to my pre-pregnancy HAPPY weight within a few months each time.
3) How did Peak Physique help you meet your weight loss goal?
Peak Physique helped me by providing me with an atmosphere where I had to be accountable for myself. I had to have discipline because it is the very thing Peak encourages the clients to have. It is all about leading by example.
4) How often did you work out at Peak Physique?
I may not have been able to physically take the sessions often in the gym alongside the clients, but I had the opportunity to write the workouts for the sessions. Therefore, I actually would guinea pig myself just about every other day to make sure the workouts were intense enough to keep up with the Peak clients’ zeal for extremely high intensity.
5) What is your favorite form of exercise to do and why?
If you would have asked me this a few years back I would have said “anything Cardio!” But as of recent years, I’ve become consumed with weightlifting. It was the missing link to getting the body composition I’ve always wanted.
6) Have you had to deal with any injuries along the way?
Yes. But nothing completely debilitating. Some days your body is up for it 100%, and other days your body just wants to rest.
7) What did you change in your diet?
I changed the way I eat my food. I eat my “veggies” first. Another change I made was I started tracking my meals more strictly, and it helped me break out of a very dangerous calorie deficit that eats away at my energy.
8) How did you manage to integrate this healthy lifestyle into your life?
Of course, anything can happen from moment to moment, but I use my work/necessary appointment schedule EACH week to “schedule” my time to work out. I make it clear to everyone that by all means, I could not miss my hour to workout, just like I couldn’t miss a shift at work. Exercise is a NECESSITY! It is important! Treat it for what it really is.
9) What is the biggest struggle: food, exercise, temptation?
Rice Krispies. I go loco if I see them. And if I’m being honest, I struggle with consistency. I enjoy trying new things so much, then I challenge myself to be decent at those things, that I can fall off an original plan. I feel this is one of the struggles you deal with when recovering from a childhood that leads you to believe you were in chains. When you feel so deprived for so long, you just want to dive in headfirst.
10) What motivates you to continue with this lifestyle?
The clients and the thrill…. This lifestyle is always changing, but every change is exciting. Keeps me on my toes.
11) What are your goals for the future?
Short term is:
Create my own exercises program with my own branding.
Long term:
Create a name for myself as an athletic trainer and sports doctor.
I can and I will.
12) What is your best piece of advice for those just starting their weight loss journey?
Weight loss isn’t an everyday straight path. There are many highs and lows… But, be patient and continue to invest in yourself. This process in all actuality takes patience, time, self-encouragement, vulnerability, and time. Invest all those things into yourself, and you will get there.
